The film is scheduled to be released on June 25 2021.
Following Ben Affleck’s departure as the iconic hero, it was reported the search for the new Dark Knight has begun. It remains to be seen who will be cast but recent reports say that Reeves’ script is focuses on a younger Batman/Bruce Wayne.
The Batman has been in development since 2015 when Affleck signed on to the DCEU, with various script drafts by Affleck and Geoff Johns being submitted to the studio. Affleck was attached to direct for a while before stepping down due to being overwhelmed with the project. War for the Planet of the Apes‘ director Matt Reeves signed on to helm about a month after Affleck’s directorial departure with the added caveat that he’d get to rewrite the script from scratch.
Reeves’ story has been described as a character-driven project focusing on Batman’s experiences as the world’s greatest detective. The filmmaker has also said to expect a “Rogue’s Gallery” of villains in the movie.
The film is set to hit theaters in June 2021
